First Time?
Everything you need to know about your first class: what to wear, class structure, and what if you’ve never danced before.
STEP 1 : Reserve
Select any class, workshop or series that you want to try, schedule yourself on an available date for that class (we use Acuity scheduling), and receive a booking confirmation by email.
THEN…
Keep it on the down low and come alone or spread the word and invite a friend!
Pack or dress in anything you can move and groove in. Athletic clothes, dance shoes, socks or bare feet.
Bring a refillable water bottle, mug or jug.
STEP 2 : Show Up
Head to our studio located at 6828 Tice Lane in Knoxville, TN 37918 (see here for map and directions).
Plan to arrive 5 to 10 minutes before class start time, which will allow you to get settled, meet the instructor, use the ladies room or fill your water bottle from our spring water cooler.
NOW DON’T OVERTHINK IT…
Don’t let the mirrors psych you out, this is about fun, creating art and a community of dancers from all levels of experience, all ages, all sizes, all walks of life. This is our time to let loose, laugh a little and let the music move us.
STEP 3 : Warm Up
Your instructor will lead you through a brief 5-10 minute warm up that includes light stretching and possibly some “across the floor” work. We got you every step of the way.
IF YOU NEED MORE…
Feel free to do additional stretching when you arrive for any particular body part that needs a little TLC or focus.
Let the instructor know if you have any injuries or at any time if you need a movement, stretch or otherwise modified - we got you!
STEP 4 : Dance!
We all learn that night’s dance or combination/s in segments and then aim towards running the dance in full 2 - 3 times so you can really show off your new skills.
DON’T FORGET…
Ask questions if something doesn’t make sense. Your instructor will assess during the beginning of class the various levels of all the students and work to adapt accordingly. If you need more of a challenge - ask. If you need a modification - ask. If you get hooked on the song used and want the title and musician - ask.
P.S. Your instructor may get overly excited seeing you dance and run the numbers - don’t worry they are okay.
Workshops for Every Woman

We offer a range of education, empowerment and entertainment offerings. These are offered in the form of classes, workshops, 1:1 training or consultations to help a woman find their fits within the performing arts.
We also offer performing opportunities to strengthen one’s commitment to their art and receive positive opportunities to share it with the wider community.
The studio is focused on providing a safe and community-centered approach to dance and performing art classes and workshops as a means to explore dance and the performing arts as a woman without regard to age, ability, experience, financial barriers or otherwise. We seek to help women find outlets for creativity whether with us or elsewhere in the community.

We are a 501c3 non-profit arts organization which relies on the community to strengthen our mission and vision.
With this basis, we have chosen to offer classes at a below market rate to make dance more accessible by limiting financial barriers that stop many women from pursuing hobbies for their mental, physical and emotional health.
We do not do this in an effort to undercut our fellow dancers, performing artists or educators - we do it with the mission of our organization in our minds.

WHY should we keep MOVING?
We believe the arts, the rhythms of music and our environment and movement are a beautiful and cohesive language, not a luxury. Whether you’re wrangling two left feet or polishing a pirouette, we hope to help you decode the steps so your body can finish the sentence and enjoy the “conversation”.
There is also a lot of evidence based research showing the value of dance, and movement for women as they age and through all stages of their lives. By maintaining mobility as you are able to, and by having to use your brain to create new pathways for remembering combinations or choreography you continue to keep these parts of you thriving.
